During a brief interaction at Pasighat, East Siang deputy commissioner informed the visiting team about the quantum of damages caused by the torrential rain. He reported of road snapping which has been partially restored, electricity and drinking water supply problems in the district headquarters and the adjoining areas.
While discussing over the SRK Construction Pvt Ltd issue, the DC informed that the culprit involved in the attack of its employee has been arrested. The Chief Minister called for stringent action against persons disturbing the process of development.
After taking off from Pasighat, the team surveyed Mebo, Dambuk, Manabhum and Roing where the nature’s fury could be visible. The river had changed its course in several areas engulfing forests, paddy fields, horticultural gardens, houses and livestock. The team had a brief halt at Roing where they interacted with the heads of the department of Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley. Some BRO officers also attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister disclosed the gathering about his meeting with the central leaders and their assurance to send a high level team to assess the damages. He further assured to provide funds for restoring the water supply in Roing township at the earliest. Tuki requested the BRO officers to expedite restoration of Roing Anini road at the earliest. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Roing gave a brief report on the flood damage in the district and its adjoining areas. She requested the state government to pump in funds to restore basic requirement like drinking water, Electricity and road communication.

The Tezu Nallah had been posing serious threat to the Tezu town in every monsoon

mitigate this continuous threat. He opted for building concrete retaining walls along

systems like sati pratha, child marriage, forced marriage, infant female child killing,
polygamy, dowry, polyandry etc were in existence. But with the passage of the time
such systems either disappeared naturally or eradicated by social movements, for

It is understood that the many of the social evils have been drastically reduced or completely eradicated but the polygamy in some tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and a dowry system mostly in central India are still being in practice which is a matter of serious concern for every Indian.
In the beginning, a man used to marry more than one wife at a time which added status in the society. But in context of modern society having more than one wife or polygamy has no social relevancy at all and economically too it is not viable.

When a married man falls in love with some one other than his wife, he started physically, mentally and emotionally torturing her first wife till she finally surrenders and says yes to him for second marriage. Such atrocity on women is a preplanned tactic adopted by a married man to marry second wife.
So polygamy is a social crime. An educated man here does not feel guilty in marrying a second wife. Just to save his face, he says, “It’s a system being practiced by our fore fathers” which is a sheer lame excuse.
Over the years, more educated married men and some people of high strata are practicing polygamy. The magnitudes of atrocities on women are in alarming situation in Arunachal Pradesh, specially among some tribes. But, our male counterparts can not only be blamed for this. Our young unmarried females are also to be equally blamed. In some cases, unmarried women knowingly get married with a man who has a wife and children. So they should be brought to book and the exemplary punishment should be given to them first.
As a preventive measure, the Nari Mukti Manch has decided to organize camps for students, youths, working women and school dropouts to help them inculcating the moral values of life at regular intervals in all districts of the state.

Road blockade in Anjaw starts to take its toll

HAWAI, Aug 03: Two moths of continued disruption of surface communication in Anjaw district triggered by heavy downpour of rainfall have now started to take its toll.
Reportedly, two people died in last one month due to want of immediate medical attention. Kandolu Pul, 45, from Mankhung of Hawai circle in Anjaw district died in Tezu on July 15. She was brought to Tezu on foot by her relatives from her village in Anjaw. Because of the continued road blockade, her body had to be cremated in Tezu, as the body could not be brought back to her village in Anjaw.
Another deceased, Bagumso Pul, 25 of Changung, Hawai circle died in Dibrugarh hospital. He reportedly died of Malaria and Typhoid. In his case too, he was brought to Dibrugarh hospital in critical condition, after days of foot march from his village in Anjaw. More than 20,000 people in Anjaw district continue to be severely affected after the region was cut off by landslides on June 20 last. All other communication services like mobile and telephone also continue to remain affected.
The surface communication in Anjaw district was disrupted after massive landslide blocked the road in Mompani, 85 km from Tezu.
As Chief Minister Nabam Tuki tours the flood affected region in Eastern Arunachal today, the question of negligence has started to arise.
Peoples Forum for Project Affected Families (PFPAF), a people’s movement against large hydropower projects in Anjaw district has alleged negligence on the part of the state government on the depreciating situation in Anjaw.
Talking over phone from Tezu, PFPAF chairperson Behenso Pul said, “Despite two months of road blockade and shortages of essential items, the state government hasn’t till date committed for a single ration sortie for the district of Anjaw.”
The Forum members met chief minister in Tezu today and raised serious concern on the casual approach of state government towards people of Anjaw.
“Anjaw district has been ravaged by flood for many days, and we hope that state government will visit the affected regions in the hills and not only in the foot hills and plains,” said Pul.
The chief minister reportedly visited Roing, Tezu and other flood affected plains of Lohit district during his aerial survey of the affected region today.
“Due to continued blockade, prices of essential items in Anjaw district are rising steeply. Rice is sold at Rs 50 per kg and petrol at Rs 200 per litre. Medical facilities are also deteriorating day by day,” said Pul.
The Forum during the meeting with chief minister also appealed for providing immediate medical services for the people of Anjaw.
Body of missing APP personnel recovered

Hornbill nest adoption prog completes one year

jointly signed a tripartite MoU last year to protect the Hornbill species under its

She also lauded the nest protectors for performing their duty sincerely.
Sanctuary Range Forest Officer also spoke on the occasion and said that such programme will inspire other local community to protect the forests and wildlife.
Representative of Nature Conservation Foundation, Mysore handed over a cheque of Rs. 25,000 to the Society as a welfare fund as per the MoU for successful implementation of the programme.

ZIRO, Aug 03: In its continued efforts to make Ziro township clean and hygienic, the Lower Subansiri district administration organized a massive cleanliness drive in Ziro township today.

The cleanliness drive covered all office complexes, market areas, sectors, colonies, circuit house and SSB gate area.
“ Ziro being a prime tourist destination needs to be clean and hygienic,“ said the Deputy Commissioner. He also exhorted the public to inculcate good civic sense as the District Administration, which is already functioning with limited manpower alone cannot keep the town clean.
Also in his attempt to reduce crime, he promised to make all the high mast street lamps in the town functional soon. He also instructed the liquor shops not to sell liquor to minors.
The Social service also saw the All Lower Subansiri Student Union (ALSSU) President Tado Raja and his team turn up in support of the drive.
Earlier, ALSSU had called a bandh on July 18 in protest against the District Administration’s alleged failure in maintaining sanitation and cleanliness in the township. The efforts put in by the District Administration under the guidance of the DC has been so far appreciated by all sections of the society.
It is worth mentioning here that, not a single shop in the township is found using polythene carry bags during a inspection by the Cleanliness Task Force Committee headed by a Circle Officer.

Field Day cum Demonstration programme on Farm Mechanizations organized
ITANAGAR, Aug 03: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Papum Pare in collaboration with Department of Agricultural Engineering, NERIST organized a Field day cum demonstration programme with the concept of “seeing is believing” and “learning by doing” at KVK Farm Karsingsa yesterday.
Dr.Nabam Gama, Farm Manager KVK Papum Pare highlighted the objectives of the programme and stated that the programme will benefit the farmers to grasp the scientific way of cultivation and put into practice into their field for improving their existing farming practices.
Vivekananda Safi, SMS Fishery, KVK Papum Pare made the farmers aware about mandate, function and activities of KVK under ICAR in the district.
At least 30 farmers including, Panchayat leaders, Head Haon Buras from the Karsingsa, Nirjuli, Laptap, Sagalee and Emchi, Doimukh attended the programme.
Dr. P.K. Pranav, Assistant Professor, NERIST impressed upon the farmer regarding role of farm tools in increasing the working efficiency of human being and safety in farm operation. He taught the farmers about the manually operated rice transplanter which are economical, efficient and consume less time.
The various farm tools like modified sickle, cono weeder, orange and apple fruit harvesters,safety gadgets (guard), Maize sheller, dibbler, drum seeder, rice transplanter etc were showcased and demonstrated to the inquisitive farmers during the programme under the supervision of R. Phukan and other staffs of AICRP on ESA NERIST centre, Nirjuli.
The farmers were made acquainted with the improved tools and implements (rice transplanter and drum seeder) by letting them carrying out the operation by themselves.

DC inaugurates NABARD District Development office at Ziro
ITANAGAR, Aug 03: The first district development office of NABARD in Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated by Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Taru Talo at Ziro yesterday.
The district office will be an extended arm of NABARD, Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office, Itanagar and Upper Subansiri and Kurung Kumey districts have been tagged with the DDM district.
Welcoming the initiative, the Deputy Commissioner expressed gratitude to NABARD for selecting the district for opening the first DDM office in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and expressed the hope that with the opening of the district office, the people of the district will be benefitted to a great extent as NABARD is the apex bank for promotion of sustainable and equitable agriculture development and prosperity of the people in the rural areas.
He also expressed the willingness of the district administration to extend all possible help and support to budding entrepreneurs and farmers of the district.
Dr.P.Radhakrishnan, General Manager, NABARD, Itanagar in his keynote address explained the policies and programmes of NABARD and opined that with the opening of the new office, NABARD will be able to give pointed focus to the three districts. The main function of the district office is to prepare credit plan and monitor the flow of ground level credit in the district and also to coordinate with the various line departments of State Govt., bankers and other developmental agencies.
He also distributed Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) sanctioned by Arunachal Pradesh State Coop. Apex Bank, Old Ziro branch on the occasion.
The meeting was also addressed by Bullo Tama, District Horticulture Officer, T.Mize, District Tourism Officer, N.K.Purkayastha, Fisheries Officer and Mudo Tatung, Manager, Apex Bank, Old Ziro Branch and was attended by representatives from other Govt. departments and farmers’ club members.
The Chairperson, Farmers Club narrated her experience in availing bank loan and repayment of loan by its members. She requested the District Administration, NABARD and bankers to extend their support for establishment of piggery and fishery units.

Yupia, Aug 03: A meeting to discuss various topics about planning and preparation for disasters and emergencies was conducted at DRDA conference hall here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu.
In his brief address, the Deputy Commissioner while citing the importance of disaster preparedness, called for preparing a well equipped and well coordinated Disaster Management plan for the Papum Pare district to cope up with any disaster problems in the district. He also mentioned that earthquake jolts are frequently felt in the district which is alarming and said a training programme on earthquake preparedness must be conducted to sensitize the people.

Proposals for tourism development
YINGKIONG, Aug 03: The Upper Siang District Tourism Development Committee (DTDC) has proposed the State Government for establishment of various tourism related infrastructure in various locations in the district having tourism potential. The DTDC, in a meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner recommended for staging huts, tourist lodges, wayside amenities and mule tracks etc. at Pongging, Katan, Porey Yorbe, Kiki Dite, Mariyang, Lakru, Migging, Panggo and appealed to the government to approve the proposal during the current financial year for the tourism development of the district in particular and the state of Arunachal Pradesh in general.

Rain creates havoc in Aalo
Aalo, Aug 03: Midnight heavy down pour led to massive damage of roads, channels at various locations in Aalo township and water logging at New Market near Aalo Landing Gound.
The Tribal Food Court and other stores at New Market were flooded and properties worth lakhs of rupees damaged.. The cause of water logging is due to unplanned construction of building and absence of drainage system. The boundary wall which protected the New Market area from entering water is either dismantled or damaged by some people which led to water logging in the area.
The West Siang Deputy Commissioner has directed the DDMO and Standing Board Members to assess the loss and damage caused to the people immediately. DIPRO.

ITANAGAR, Aug 03: A team of nature enthusiasts under the banner of Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club is collecting the details on birds available in Tale Wildlife Sanctuary (TWS), Ziro valley. The club, which started its first exploration on bird life of the sanctuary and Ziro valley in the year 2009, has come up with list of birds found in and around the sanctuary along with photographic evidence.
So far they have listed 294 bird species available in Tale Wildlife Sanctuary and Ziro valley in different time and season of the year. They have found resident, migratory and transit birds. Out of which many of them are rare, endangered and some of them are only found in the state of Arunachal Pradesh only. A detail reports have been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri and Divisional Forest Officer Ziro. The same report has also been submitted to the Secretary and Director, Department of Tourism Government of Arunachal Pradesh. On the basis of the report submitted to the government for kind perusal of the then Deputy Commissioner and District Tourism Officer, a birding/ bird watching workshop was organized first the first time in state at Ziro recently. Currently the club members are working on birds of East Kameng District. and they have found 209 species of birds so far.

Agri scientists inspect affected rice field in Dumporijo
ITANAGAR, Aug 03: A team of scientists and subject matter specialists from ICAR Basar inspected the rice field affected by insect pest and diseases in Dumporijo circle of Upper Subansiri district yesterday.
The team visited rice field of 13 farmers of Digbak village and evaluated the different symptoms witnessed in the field like insect pests infestation, as well as infection by diseases and other nutrient deficiency symptoms.
Recommendations were made for corrective measures but the team said that major damage was already made. The team also interacted with the farmers and suggested them follow the to do the needful as suggested at the earliest. The team further suggested them to use only the certified seeds of the improved varieties/high yielding varieties from authorized agencies.
PPUEA places grievances
ITANAGAR, Aug 03: The Papum Pare Unemployed Engineers’ Association (PPUEA), in a release, said that the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has assured to solve the various problems placed by the association before him besides assuring to convey the demands to various private companies like SRK, SUSHEE, NEEPCO, NHPC etc. to make recruitment policy for unemployed engineers.
